The Triangulation of Ireland

Betweenn 1824 and 1828 the Ordance Survey produced an accurate map of Ireland by means of a coordinated system of triangles, drawn along lines of sight between high points in the landscape. By physically measuring a 'baseline' along the shores of Lough Foyle all other distances could be inferred. More
